Installation

Step 1.  Notice that the windscreen is protected on both sides with a brown adhesive paper.  Remove the paper on both sides.  Be careful, these windscreens are laser cut, so the edges might be a little sharp.

Step 2.  Install the protective felt strips.   Note that the felt goes on the inside, facing the seats.  See the image at the bottom of the this page for the location of the felt strips.  The measurements are approximate….anything close will work fine.  Remove the paper backing from the strips and press into place according to the diagram.  There should be 5 pieces (2.5” x 1”) and 2 pieces (1” x 0.5”). Extra pieces of felt might be sent with your windscreen just in case you lose one or need to replace one in the future.  Once you have all the felt in place, proceed to step 3.

Step 3.  Open the truck lid on the car and notice the 4 screws.  (There are actually 6 screws, but the 2 on the far outside are not used).  Remove the 4 screws with a Phillips screwdriver.  Please make note not to strip these screws….I’ve noticed that these screws are very tight from the factory and do require a good bit of force to loosen.  Once you have all 4 screws removed, install a neoprene washer (rubber side on the inside – facing the seats) onto each screw and then re-install them back into their original locations.  NOTE : Don’t tighten these yet, you just want to turn them enough (2 or 3 times) so as to leave about ¼” of space between the washer and the head of the screw. (This is where the windscreen will in “drop in”).

Step 4.  Install the windscreen by lowering it between the neoprene washer and the head of the screws.  Start with one on the outside, and tighten it just enough to keep the windcreen from sliding back down.  The second screw you should tighten is the one on the other side (far opposite).  Again, just tighten this screw just enough to keep the windscreen from sliding down.  Now tighten the 2 center screws, and finish by tightening the 2 outside screws.  IMPORTANT – DON’T OVERTIGHTEN THESE SCREWS.  I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!  You want a snug, tight fit….however tightening these too much will put unnecessary stress on the acrylic, increasing the potential for cracking.  Once you have all 4 screws tightened….close the trunk lid.  The first few times might require a little more force than is normally required.

Step 5.  Now get in the car and go for ride and enjoy your new windscreen!

Note : If you want, you can install a couple of clear, self adhesive bumpers (included)  to the rear windshield to keep the windscreen from touching it when the top is up.  This is completely optional…I only wanted to mention it in case some of you have concerns about the rear windshield and the windscreen rubbing against each other.  Personally I don’t use them on my vehicle but I do provide them in case others want to.

Important Information Regarding Cleaning Your Windscreen

Acrylic should be cleaned with clean, lukewarm water and a clean, nonabrasive, non-contaminating cloth. If desired, a mild, nonabrasive detergent may also be used. Use only light pressure when cleaning. If the surface is exceptionally dirty or gritty, "rinse" the surface first by lightly swabbing a saturated cloth over the surface and allowing surfactants to drain away. Avoid rubbing dirt or grit into the surface. Turn the cloth often and replace with a clean cloth frequently. Dry by blotting gently with a clean, dry cloth. DO NOT USE ketones, aromatics, esters, halogens, window cleaning sprays, alcohol, kitchen scouring compounds, or solvents (such as acetone, benzene, gasoline, carbon tetrachloride, or thinners). Do not use ammonia based cleaning solutions on the acrylic as it will eat into the sheet and cause it to craze.   *** DO NOT USE WINDEX OR ANY OTHER GLASS CLEANER AS THIS WILL CAUSE VERY SMALL BUT NOTICABLE SCRATCHES***
